Psych

    Who doesn’t like a good detective show? A good detective show would be even better though if the show was about a psychic detective, and that is exactly what my favorite show is about. Psych is about a detective named Shawn Spencer who’s amazing observational skills convince people that he indeed is a psychic. His abilities become useful as he starts to assist the Santa Barbara police department with various unusual cases.
   
    Every episode starts off with a flashback of Shawn when he was a kid. The flashbacks show his dad, an ex-police officer, who is trying to teach him to follow in his foot steps to become a police officer. Each one of these flashbacks sets the plot for the episode as well as provides an underlying message. In one episode the flashback begins with Shawn playing poker at his dad’s police station and winning. However his dad scolds him about the dangers of poker, and that you can not always win. The flashback then ends and just like you would have guessed the episode is about poker and the dangers of it. I guess something I enjoy from this show is the nostalgia it brings. As a child my parents would always tell me what I should do or shouldn’t do, but now that I think back, the advice have come in handy when I run across trouble.

    Each episode is unique in its own way. From catching criminals and masterminds, to finding missing mummies and dinosaur fossils, each episode is full of humorous, action packed, intense thrills. Every ending to the mystery is unique, and the criminal is never who you expect it to be. After just a few episodes, it has quickly caught my attention, and I started watching every episode.

    I do not really know why I enjoy watching this show this much. It may because of a sense of nostalgia, or perhaps the wittiness of Shawn Spencer, and his use of his photographic memory to solve these cases which makes it amusing to watch. Or perhaps I too want some type of adventure away from what feels like repetitiveness. Being some type of detective seems to be a fun job, full of thrill seeking challenges that have been missing out in my life. Perhaps I will look back one day, and see right now as a flashback, and realize just how exciting my life actually is. However until then, I guess I am impatient for the unknown future and what it brings. Too bad I'm not a psychic.
